Mapping Genetic Diversity in Israel
The Israel Reference Genome Study (IRGS) is a national initiative led by Psifas, aiming to better understand genetic variation across Israel’s diverse population groups. By sequencing the whole genome of 50 individuals from over 60 distinct subpopulations, the study captures a unique and detailed map of genetic diversity.

Building a Population-Based
Reference Genome
A key component of the study is the construction of a population-based reference genome that reflects the mosaic of ancestries in Israel. The project also identifies ethnic-specific allele frequencies, helping researchers uncover disease-associated patterns and population-level risk factors.
High Standards Through Strategic Partnerships
Developed in partnership with Illumina, the study meets high standards of data quality and scientific integrity.
The genomic data can be integrated with broader clinical datasets, offering valuable insights for public health, genetics, and precision medicine.
